Father's day - a sacred holiday in my family. My parents waited 8 years to be parents before adopting me (I was 2 months old at the time). Therefore, mother's day and father's day are both very sacred. Happy Father's Day, Dad. You're still my hero. I love you!

Was up by 8 with my son so that my father could sleep in. Made coffee, fried ham and scrambled eggs (with ketchup) for dad's breakfast (no toast - he's on a low carb kick). Mom and dad went off to church and I cleaned and scrubbed the grilltop grate for the gas grill (it must not have been cleaned in ages - in my humble opinion, they should have bought a new grill - especially sinc emy father also picked up a brand new propane tank and had to clean the gas jets. For the money, time and aggrivation, buy a new grill. It's not like they don't have the money - but whatever. So I cleaned the grill.) Took a shower, emptied the dishwasher, did the breakfast dishes, cleaned and vacuumed my room and my son's room and the bathroom.

My grandparents (mom's parents) and my Aunt Rita (mom's siter) came over to celebrate with us. It was food from start to finish - and I was prep-cook and grillmistress extrordinaire. Start with Horseradish cheddar cheese, black olives, Triscuits, sesame sticks, pretzels and mustard, chips, and lots of wine. Then the Polish kielbasa and shrimp marinated in Wishbone Robusto Italian dressing, both cooked in foil pans on the grilltop. Then spareribs. And the obligatory pasta - ziti and mom's homemade sauce. And then hamburgers and hot dogs with grandma's (truly excellent) chili. Then salad. Then everything was cleared away and the coffee was started. Large chocolate chip cookie cake and two different flavors of bryers ice cream - chocolate and chocolate almond mocha. Plus fresh watermelon. Then mom started insisting that everybody take something home with them. I requested the cooked marinade from the shrimp. It's divine over linguini.

I drove my sister back to the train station more near my parents house and instead of thaking the parking lot, er um, I mean Turnpike, I took 295N to Rt 1. First time for that. And I didn't even get (too) lost!

But I arrived home to find that my landlord had made good on his promise to have the hedges trimmed. They are about half their previous height! Talk about a haircut! It's actually much better now, but they still are in that looking naked stage. It's kinda funny, actually. But I can sit on my porch and actually see the street. In fact, I can see across the street from the windows in my living room. This also means that the people across the street can see me, so I have to be more carful about prancing around the house without clothes on. Naked fat chick is not everybody's idea of beautiful (yes, yes, I know that there are notable exceptions, and believe me, I appreciate that).

Speaking of people who don't mind naked fat chick, my ex-husband called my cell phone I think. It showed up as his aunt's number. I missed the call and have little desire to hear the message. He doesn't deserve the wonderfulness that is father's day. I still think I'm going to buy myself a father's day present. Maybe a CD. I'm thinking the Ramones. "I Wanna Be Sedated" has been a song I've been jonesing to hear lately.

But home safe and sound once again. Have to make sure the garbage makes it to the curb tonight for pickup tomorrow, and I should really flip my futon, but other than that, nothing to do. I may go on a cleaning binge. Or better yet, take a long walk around the neighborhood. Walk off some of the food from today.

I'D RATHER BE SWIMMING.
