2003-06-21 - 4:31 p.m. So I got myself a box of wine. And never made it to shopping. The neighbors stopped by to say hello last night. I invited them to the Housewarming of course. They were a little drunk, but they said that I'm a whole lot cooler than they thought I'd be. I think I'll take that as a compliment. Today I went outside and got some yardwork done. Yes - in the rain. Jena shorts and a tank top. Old clunky shoes and some heavy duty gardening gloves. Coupldn't use the roundup because it's raining - hard. So I weeded - a lot. Found a set of BBQ tongs, a trowel, three dead trees, and a charcoal grill hiding in the dense folliage. Pulled out most of a bush that was growing out of control far too close to the brick grill thing. Also disentagled some climbing vines that were choking another bush. It also seems that tennants have been dumping the old firewood in the back yard. So there's rotting charred wood everywhere. While I realize the potential fertilizing value, I'd rather not have large chunks of dead rotting wood in my backyard. Luckily trash pickup is Monday morning. I have a lot of crap to put on the curb. Since I came in soaked to the skin and muddy, I rinsed off in the shower and now have to do laundry (which I really had to do anyway). More yardwork later today and tomorrow most likely. I'm going to see if I can strike a deal with my uncle who lives close by - if he lets me borrow his hedge trimmers and branch loppers, I'll return them the same day and then trim his hedges for him (he injured his ankle recently and has been fairly laid up lately). Anyway. Spending a rainy day indoors with a three year old without the benefits of cable TV is ... interesting. We've watched Disney videos and played with cars, made popcorn and cleaned up together. He even let me sleep until 10:30am this morning. But I think that the rain has temporarily ceased. Maybe we'll go back outside.
