So ...

Ranting over and I'm in a much better mood now. Despite being crampy and still hormonal. Despite the fact that the ex-husband called last night at an ungodly hour to talk only about himself. And mentioned that he might be bringing his 18 year-old girlfriend with him on Saturday morning when he comes to see the small child (which probably means that he needs a ride - his license is still suspended). ETA 10am. I'll believe it when I see it.

Yes, happy girl. Why? I have an excuse to buy a chess set! Yes, I've been campaigning to learn how to play chess since I was 8 years old and nobody would teach me (methinks the adults may have been a little intimidated by the 8 year old who could probably beat them). So here I am, 26, with many brilliant friends several of whom know how to play, who have said "sure I'll teach you" and it just never materialized. And now there is a very real possibility that I will actually be learning soon. I am beyond excited!

OK, so for the clueless ... this is so not just about chess.

I always hope for the best and prepare for the worst. The actuality is usually somewhere in between. And I tend to post more fears than hopes, because things tend to work out better if you don't hope out loud (as well as it being less humiliating when they don't go well). But sometimes things work out better than you think they will.

And I've been saying to others lately "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got. Try something new." And so I took my own advice. I did something very uncharacteristic. I laid some serious cards out on the table. Yes, me - the one who revels in being mysterious and making people pull information out of me.

And the end result is good. *big toothy dolphin smile*

Oh, Hell, I might as well tie it all together for you.

I like anyone who can teach me something new - stretch my brain a bit - help me grow. But I may have to work hard to not be too distracted by the very attractive man across the chessboard.

Which one is this? I'll just let you wonder. *grins* A little mystery is good for you! [and some of the more astute readers will know or guess correctly anyway]
